11 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN PLANNING A WEDDING
DECIDED TO GET MARRIED?
Congratulations! What’s next? Planning a wedding is fun but can be bewildering at the same time, especially when you have a busy work schedule or need to focus on other things in life. Plan as early as possible. Twelve months of preparation is ideal.
SHOULD YOU HAVE A HOTEL WEDDING?
In recent years, there's a rising trend in the number of hotel weddings taking place globally as many couples now prefer to hold the ceremony and the reception in one location. This cuts costs and hassle and gives couples a chance to focus on the celebration instead of dividing their time between the ceremony and reception, should they be held separately.
A hotel wedding has everything you need - perfectly beautiful settings, tasty food, accommodation, vendor contacts, and event planners. Event planners will walk with you in the process of planning and take care of all the details, leaving you a hassle-free dreamy occasion.
1. VISUALISE YOUR WEDDING DAY
Most people, especially women daydream about their wedding day. Now is the time to ask yourselves how you want your wedding to be. Discuss with your partner the kind of weddings that appeal to you both. Should it be grand or intimate? A city wedding or perhaps a romantic beachfront ceremony? Perhaps you prefer a themed wedding?
2. SET YOUR BUDGET
It is important to get realistic and look deep into your bank accounts. The budget determines what kind of wedding you will have. Are your parents helping with the funding? Since it’s a trend to give monetary wedding gifts nowadays, are you able to get an idea of how much your family or close friends plan to contribute? Prepare ahead how you approach them for this discussion. Budgeting can be stressful and not the easiest topic to bring up, but it sets into motion the rest of your wedding planning process. Pool all numbers together, and you should have a rough estimate of your wedding budget. Don’t forget to add an extra 5 to 10 per cent for unexpected expenses.
3. GUEST LIST
Before you come up with guest names, think more generally about the size of the wedding you prefer – a lavish celebration or a more intimate gathering? Is it 50 guests or 500? Build your guest list together with your partner. It may not be the final list yet, but you will have an approximate guest count as this is important when it comes to your venue options.
4. CHOOSE YOUR WEDDING VENUE AND WEDDING DATE
Which comes first, setting a wedding date or finding a venue? These two go hand in hand since you won’t be able to officially set a wedding date until you have booked your venue.
As you already have an idea of your budget and the number of guests, you need to choose some wedding dates. Have at least three dates. Most couples are flexible with dates to accommodate available venues. They select their date based on their chosen venue’s availability. Some couples are set on a specific date when they’d like to wed and then find venues that can accommodate that particular day. It’s your choice.
Now that you have a budget, an estimated guest count, and a few potential wedding dates in mind, you have the information you need to book a venue. Work with your partner to find your dream wedding location and set up an appointment to visit the event planner in person.

It can take months to find the one you like and more time until it is properly tailored and ready for the fitting. At the same time, you will also need to find your shoes since your wedding dress is altered based on your heels. You'd need your shoes to be ready for the fitting.
7. THE GROOM SUIT
With so much going on with the wedding planning, it's always recommended to start looking for the groom's suit early, at the same time as the bride’s dress. This allows time for alterations to get the perfect fit.
8. FINALISE THE GUEST LIST
The guest list is a tricky and emotional issue. You might have to trim down or add names without stirring up tensions between your spouse, your parents and future parents-in-law. Usually, the person who contributes the most money will have some say in who to invite. When you have your finalized list, it’s time to inform your event planner for further preparations.
9. INVITATION CARDS
If you are having your wedding cards printed, do this months ahead as wedding invitations are usually sent two months before the big day.
10. PLAN YOUR HONEYMOON
Many couples wait for a suitable time to go on a honeymoon. If you plan to honeymoon right after the wedding, you should start to think about the desired location and plan to book your travel and accommodation.
11. GET READY TO BE MARRIED
Touch base with all of the key vendors in your wedding. Talk to the wedding planner to see if there are any final details to follow up on. Your event planner is the person who will help take some pressures away from you and make your celebration run smoothly.
Invest in a cute notebook as a wedding countdown and, most importantly, keep organized. To keep you on track, list all the dates, ideas, contacts, and what-next-to-do. Planning for your wedding is a precious memory and a meaningful part of your journey to celebrate your love with each other. Enjoy.
